Crypto APY calculator

Three quick checks for any DeFi rate: what a deposit will earn, whether a better rate is worth the cost of moving, and how much of a headline APY depends on a reward token holding its price. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere: the maths runs in your browser.

1. What will my deposit earn?

Enter the rate a pool quotes. If it’s an APR, choose how often it compounds and the calculator converts it to APY.

2. Is a higher rate worth the switch?

Moving pools costs gas, swap fees and sometimes a withdrawal fee. See how many days the better rate needs to win those costs back.

Gains are net of the switching cost and assume both rates stay where they are, which they rarely do.

3. What if the reward token falls?

Many pools pay part of their APY in a reward token. That part moves with the token’s price; the base part doesn’t.

APR to APY conversion table

The same APR turns into a higher APY the more often it compounds. The gap is small at low rates and large at high ones:

How much does a deposit earn in a year?

At a steady APY, one year’s earnings are simply the deposit times the APY. Real DeFi rates move, so read these as what today’s rate would pay if it held:

One-year earnings by deposit and APY
Deposit4% APY5% APY8% APY10% APY
$1,000$40.00$50.00$80.00$100.00
$5,000$200.00$250.00$400.00$500.00
$10,000$400.00$500.00$800.00$1,000.00

How to convert APR to APY by hand

  1. Write the APR as a decimal. Divide the percentage by 100. A 10% APR becomes 0.10.
  2. Divide by the compounding periods. Divide by how many times a year the yield compounds: 365 for daily, 52 for weekly, 12 for monthly. Daily: 0.10 ÷ 365 = 0.000274.
  3. Compound it for a year. Add 1 and raise the result to the power of the number of periods: 1.000274 to the power of 365 is about 1.1052.
  4. Turn it back into a percentage. Subtract 1 and multiply by 100: 0.1052 is a 10.52% APY.

Going the other way, APR = n × ((1 + APY)^(1/n) − 1). The calculator does both: choose whether the rate you entered is an APR or an APY.

What an APY calculator can’t tell you about DeFi

  • The rate will move. Lending APYs follow borrowing demand and can change within hours. Compare today’s rate with its 30-day median before you count on it.
  • Rewards aren’t interest. Part of many APYs is paid in a protocol token. If that token falls, so does your real yield: use the third calculator above to see how much.
  • Compounding isn’t always automatic. Lending interest usually compounds by itself; claimed rewards don’t, and every claim costs gas.
  • Principal is at risk. No calculator models a smart-contract exploit, a depeg or a withdrawal queue. A yield is only worth having if the deposit comes back.

For a sense of scale: on 13 October 2026, stablecoin pools holding at least $1M had a median APY of 4.32%, according to the stablecoin yield report. See today’s figures in the stablecoin pool explorer.

APY calculator FAQ

How much is 5% APY on $1,000?

About $50.00 over a year, if the rate stays at 5%: roughly $4.17 a month on average. APY already includes compounding, so there is nothing more to add.

How much will $10,000 earn at 4% APY?

$400.00 in a year, or about $33.33 a month. In DeFi the rate usually floats, so treat this as an estimate at today’s rate rather than a fixed return.

What is the difference between APR and APY?

APR is a simple yearly rate that ignores compounding. APY includes the effect of earning interest on interest. For the same pool, APY is equal to or higher than APR, and the gap grows with the rate and how often it compounds.

How is APY calculated with daily compounding?

APY = (1 + APR/365)^365 − 1. A 5% APR compounded daily is a 5.13% APY, and a 20% APR is a 22.13% APY.

What is a good APY in crypto?

It depends on the asset and the risk. For dollar stablecoins, the median APY across 339 pools holding at least $1M was 4.32% on 13 October 2026, and half paid between 2.80% and 6.31%. Rates well above that range usually come with reward tokens, small pools or extra risk.

What is the highest APY in crypto?

Headline APYs in the hundreds or thousands of percent exist, but almost always in tiny pools, volatile tokens or short reward programmes. Among the 339 stablecoin pools holding at least $1M on 13 October 2026, only 5 paid 20% or more.

Does crypto APY compound automatically?

Sometimes. Interest in most lending markets is added to your balance continuously, so it compounds by itself. Reward tokens usually do not: you have to claim and redeposit them, paying gas each time, unless an auto-compounding vault does it for a fee.
